Day 1 - Friday 02.04.11

Here starts our FabFebFun adventure!

I had forgotten how early 3:30am is.  Which is the time I had to get up Friday morning to get to the airport for a 7:29am flight.  I know that was around the same time that Robin and Deb had to get up as well.  Scotty was at the house by 4:45am.  Uneventful trip, flight great until touchdown in San Jose, Costa Rica.  I grabbed the guy's arm next to me as we landed a little sideways.

Talk about good luck - Debbie and Robin's plane landed about 10 minutes before mine.  I came through customs, and there they were!   We stopped at the cambio and got a few hundred dollars worth of colones.   Which I knew was going to be a challenge for me at $1 dollar to $500 colones!  Hello!  Quick - how many colones is $135.78?  Exactly!  Deb was inclined to call them cajones, which got a few odd stares.  If it was cojones we needed, between the three of us we would have no worries - we really had that covered(I'm talking the female version of big cojones)  Luckily we never ran short of colones, so never had to pull out the cajones, literally or figuratively.

From the time we landed our guides were wonderful.  They tagged us and led us out to the van that was waiting.  Of course our biggest concern was finding a place to stop to buy some wine and liquor - priorities.  So off we went on our 3+ hour ride to The Springs Spa  & Resort.

Wow - Costa Rica is amazingly beautiful.  The first hour was great.  We traveled a looping, winding road  with velvet green rolling mountains with crops, cattle, horses.  I started to feel a little ill by the second hour, as the winding continued around hairpin turns, up mountainous roads that threatened to stall out the van.    By the third hour, I have to admit I was sweating a little.  Debbie was sitting in the front with the driver Marco.  I would say she was a very distinct green color.

The driveway from the road to the resort was about 15 minutes long, bumpy and scarey.  But when we pulled up to the resort, we knew we had picked the right place.    As you walk in into the open air lobby, all you see is the volcano.  We had made it!

And the view from our room was even better.   We got a two bedroom suite which was really nice.  Cedar closets and doors, big patio overlooking the volcano and surrounding pastures.

Robin surprised me and Deb with a beautiful bracelet for each of us for our birthdays.  It was made of Costa Rican coins and also has a tiny heart with a 50 on it, for both of our 25th birthdays - you get it, 2 ladies @ 25 = 50.  It was very unexpected and thoughtful.

                                           Happy 25 & 25 Deb and Gina!!

We had a very relaxing dinner in one of the many outdoor restaurants.  Dennis was our waiter and such a nice guy.  We asked what a typical dinner would be in Costa Rica.  He suggested ordering the typical dinner - huh?  That's what it was called - it was rice and beans, plantains, and wonderful grilled fish.

The first day was a very long day but already a great start to our Fabulous February Fun vacation!

Hello - We've Arrived!  The Ladies Are Here!
Where's Dennis?  Oh That's Right, We Haven't Met Him Yet.
